Firefighters are continuing mop-up efforts to extinguish a brush fire that consumed about 8 acres makai of Hualalai Elderly Housing in Kailua-Kona.
The fire, which broke out around noon Friday in vacant land north of Kamaaina Hale, is listed as under control and fully contained, according to the Hawaii Fire Department.
Hualalai Road remains open. Motorists are advised to use caution when driving in the area because firefighters and equipment are working.
